What makes people say stupid things like this?

I cannot understand how any true american can look forward to someone “interpreting” the national anthem. I can imagine how the brits would respond to doing “god save the queen/king”, they’d probably lynch the performer. Personally, I’d love it if the true patriots (if any) in the audience started throwing rotten tomatoes at these wonderful exapmles of americas “finest”
